News articles are selected from a weekly search of the major daily and weekly newspapers of all New Jersey’s 21 counties. Article selection criteria include press clippings that report, discuss or opine about activities and issues of officially managed districts (see District Network List). Relevant articles from communities that are considering downtown management, as well as from cities or towns that do not have officially managed districts, but are dealing with the same or similar Main Street concerns, are also included. Articles cover downtown managing issues, concepts, mission; (re)development, and any concerns that affect the vitality and viability of primary commercial districts. Specific issues vary depending its urban, suburban or rural setting, and on where they exist in the cycle of development and renewal, but the broad areas covered relate to appearance and attractiveness, cleanliness and maintenance, traffic and parking issues, pedestrian safety; related programs and funding; community involvement, cooperation and celebration.
It is hoped that this collection of news articles will further the dialogue on downtowns and management issues, and encourage the spread and sharing of ideas and solutions in a timely manner.
On the navigation bar at your left you will find New Jersey counties listed. Archived articles are arranged by municipalities within each county, and can be found on the linked page.
For news articles covering an area larger than one municipality, see the State & County page, (following the counties listed on the navigation bar), where articles that are relevant to the state, or cover a particular county, are archived.
